Viewing FAQ

Who can use Viewings?
A club may allow access to a viewing to either or both of:
- Judges who are not members of the club: your club will send you a personalised link to allow you access to the Viewing. Please do not share this link.
- Club members: A "View Entries for All Users" button will appear when you select a competition.
Do I need Javascript enabled in my browser?
Yes, the Viewing screens will not function without Javascript enabled.
What browser may I use?
The following browsers are supported:
- Firefox
- Chromium
- Google Chrome
- Apple Safari (Mac)
- Microsoft Edge (the Chromium-based version released in Q2 2020).
Do NOT use Internet Explorer. It is obsolete and broken in many ways including image sizing, colour management, and layout.
Browsers on mobile devices may be used, but screen size may be an issue when viewing higher resolution images. It has been tested with Apple Safari on IOS.
How can make best use of the screen size?
When a Viewing starts it will be within the normal window of your browser. We highly recommend that you switch to Full Screen mode using the link at the top of the page.
You will get a warning about entering full-screen mode from your browser. This is a built-in security feature. You can exit full-screen mode using the same link.
What size will PhotoEntry display images?
Independent of the full-screen setting, you can switch between two viewing modes:
- Initially the image will be unzoomed. It will be displayed at a reduced size, with other contextual information and data entry boxes around it.
- By clicking on the image you will switch to zoomed mode. Only the image itself will be displayed. The left and right arrow keys may also be used to move through images when zoomed.
Regardless of the zoomed mode, PhotoEntry will never magnify an image. If the image appears smaller than expected it is because the image is only that size.
To properly inspect an image we strongly recommend you enable full-screen mode, and zoom the image.
What resolution screen should I use?
Use the highest resolution screen you can. PhotoEntry will display zoomed or unzoomed images as large as it can within the available space without magnifying the image. If a club sets the target resolution very high, PhotoEntry may be forced to scale down the image to fit your viewing region.
How are panel competitions viewed?
A panel competition is one where there is more than one image per entry, and those images are judged as a set. On the top right of the (unzoomed) screen you will see "Image n of n". This denotes the image number within the entry.
What are the Notes boxes?
A club may enable notes for a Viewing. This allows people viewing the image to enter some notes about it. The club may also allow you to see notes already entered by other people, in which case you will not be able to change them. Please be aware that notes are not anonymous, and that if the club makes them available your name will be displayed beside your note.
For panel competitions it is possible to enter notes about the entry as a whole, and also about each image within the entry.
How do Judge Score Sheets work?
When a judge is viewing the images, he/she may enter notes, and then print or email themselves a score sheet with the entry information and their notes on it. This might be a blank one that can be hand-written on, or a completed one. It is entirely optional.
